What to Save From Your Fundraiser for Next Time

When a fundraiser ends, it’s tempting to check it off the list and move on. But before the details fade, take a few minutes to record what you learned.

Whether you’re planning another campaign next semester or handing things over to a new volunteer, a short recap can save everyone time.

01First question

What worked?

Think about what helped your campaign run smoothly. Did families appreciate having extra notice? Was the activity a good fit for your group? Did a particular message get people excited to participate?

Save useful materials, too—your launch announcement, event schedule, and any instructions you’d want to use again.

02Second question

What caused confusion?

Write down the questions that came up more than once. Maybe families weren’t sure when the campaign ended or how the activity would work.

Sound familiar?Questions you heard more than once belong in your recap.

Those questions can show you what to explain more clearly next time.

A quick note now could prevent a lot of repeat conversations later.

03Third question

What should you repeat—or change?

Ask a few volunteers or families for feedback while the experience is still fresh. Keep it simple:

  1. 1What was easy?
  2. 2What could have been clearer?
  3. 3What would you suggest for next time?

Then choose a few changes you can realistically make. You don’t need a lengthy report—one shared document is enough to give your next campaign a useful starting point.
